de evento académico en Estados Unidos
El próximo año se
va a realizar la First International Conference On Culture, Race/Ethnicity
and Brain Injury Rehabilitation en el mes de abril en la ciudad
de Washington, EEUU. Esta conferencia va a ser patrocinada por
varias de las organizaciones mas importantes del mundo en el área
del daño cerebral y la discapacidad (International Brain
Injury Asociation, National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation
Research etc.) Se espera que a ella asistan profesionales de
todo el mundo y desde ya varios de los mejores investigadores
en este tema han confirmado su asistencia.

El Dr. Juan Carlos Arango Lasprilla va ser el presidente de este
importante congreso. Este nombramiento conjuntamente con la invitación
que ha recibido el Dr. Arango como editor invitado de dos de
las más importantes revistas de rehabilitación
en el mundo (Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation y Neurorehabilitation),
hablan del reconocimiento que esta teniendo el trabajo de nuestro
colega no solo en Colombia sino en el exterior.

A continuación, presentamos una convocatoria que lanza este psicólogo colombiano, doctorado en España y actualmente profesor en Estados Unidos, para el sometimiento de artículos para el número monográfico sobre "Aspectos Culturales y Rehabilitación" de la revista NeuroRehabilitation . Presentamos el texto original en inglés:
Dear colleagues, NeuroRehabilitation , an international journal emphasizing publication of scientifically based, practical information relevant to all aspects of neurologic rehabilitation, is accepting abstracts for consideration of manuscript publication in a special thematic issue on cultural issues and neurorehabilitation next year. Possible topics include, but are not limited to,:
- cross-cultural neurorehab
- influence of race/ethnicity on outcomes after neurorehab
- effectiveness of neurorehab techniques in diverse cultures
- generalizability of instruments and outcome evaluation tools beyond the majority group's culture
- neurorehab with under-served populations
- education/cultural competency/development of cultural competence of neurorehab providers
- effective strategies for working with patients from various ethnic backgrounds
Abstracts of empirical data are preferred and will be given priority acceptance. Manuscripts cover the full life span and range of neurological disabilities including stroke, dementia, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, neuromuscular disease, tumors, and other neurological disorders. Information is intended for an interdisciplinary audience.
It is my sincere hope that you and/or your colleagues will be interested in submitting a 300 word abstract by October 1, 2007. Please use the following format:

Results
Conclusions
Publication decisions will be made based on relevance to practice, quality of methodology, and synthesis of findings with existing literature. Therefore, if data collection is on-going, report of preliminary or anticipated findings is encouraged.
Authors will be notified of acceptance of their manuscript by mid-November and the final manuscript will be due April 1, 2008. Manuscripts are given blind, peer review, and authors are provided with timely, constructive feedback.
